The Cornell Moderator is a brand new campus newspaper, that was just started this semester. They are rather unlike the normal political campus newspaper, and for the most part, the paper is made up of debates on controversial issues. Most of the articles are written by two people who strongly disagree, which makes for nice reading. One thing I do not like about it, is that two people can be reading the same article, and both be convinced — but in opposite ways, one for, and the other, against.

My first ever published work was in a debate in their last (second) issue. It feels kind of strange to see my name in the middle of a newspaper, and to be listed as a “writer”. I debated with Calvin Selth, the treasurer for Haven, Cornell’s umbrella homosexual student organization, on whether or not being gay was a choice.

It is hard to know who won, neither of us convinced each other. Hopefully though, somebody will be convinced that there is hope — and that you can change your sexual orientation.
